Final round of true beta invitations just sent

February 5th, 2010

Peyton Stafford here. We sent the final round of invitations to people who volunteered to try the “true beta” version of GTDInbox Plus Beta. We have been collecting error reports and narratives of our brave volunteers and plan to begin releasing new versions, next week.

We will probably have to release a rapid series of updates as we fine-tune our code to eliminate loading and other errors. These next releases should become trouble-free enough for people who declined the true beta stage to try.

Please keep an eye on this blog and on the NEW sign in the left sidebar of GTDInbox for more information.

Best,

Peyton

Round 8 has gone out

February 4th, 2010

The beta continues going well, so we have sent invitations to another round of GTDInboxers. We have been sending to people who indicated that they were OK with a true beta and to a few who asked to be bumped up even though they had initially declined the true beta. If you’d like an invite, please sign up and then let us know! We’ll be glad to send you one!

Reports indicate that Firefox 3.6 is giving us problems, so making GTDInbox fully compatible with it is a priority. We are also planning to bring back the Finish button that we accidentally removed from GTDInbox Free.

If people have suggestions for improvement, now that they’ve been using GTDInbox Plus Beta, we’d love to hear them, either here or on UserVoice.

Best,

Peyton

Round 7 of invitations went this morning. Pls check your spam folder.

February 3rd, 2010

The GTDInbox Plus Beta roll-out continues to go reasonably well. We have identified several common problems with GTDInbox not loading. Firefox 3.6 is often involved. We should have a new release to solve these problems, next week.

Meanwhile, if you were expecting an invitation but haven’t received it, please check your spam folder. As one would expect when sending out multiple messages that all say about the same way, some of ours are being flagged as spam.

Round 6 of Invitations Sent and Other News

February 2nd, 2010

We are happy with the reception GTDInbox Plus Beta has been getting. Most GTDInbox people have been able to upgrade and use the new version without any serious problems (though we appreciate it when they send in their error reports — those reports are guiding us as we prepare the next release).

We just sent emails to another 80 GTDInbox users, inviting them to upgrade to GTDInbox Plus Beta. If all goes well, we will send another 80 invitations, tomorrow. If you haven’t already registered for the upgrade waiting list, please follow this link to the waiting list page. If you don’t know what the upgrade is about, please take a look at the feature tour on YouTube so you can get a glimpse of the powerful new tools we have added in this first release.

Several people have asked about the Chrome port. Just to reassure everyone, it is still scheduled for release before the end of this month. With luck, it will be sooner.

Quick Fix for Windows Vista GTDInbox installs

February 1st, 2010
Several GTDInbox users have not been able to get GTDInbox 3.0.11 to run even after uninstalling and reinstalling it several times. The following procedure may fix the problem in the short run. Long run, we need to rewrite some of our code so that it plays better with Vista and 7. Hope to do that, next week. Meanwhile, this procedure may get you up and running for your Monday morning work.
Basically, this will make Firefox forget your old GTDInbox settings. GTDInbox should install correctly afterwards. You may still get some error messages, but if the problem has been these old settings, then GTDInbox will work. If you use custom status labels, you will need to update your preferences, again, in the Preferences box, after completing this procedure.
You must follow these steps in order, and you must not make any other changes once you go past the warning.
1. Uninstall GTDInbox.

2. Restart Firefox.

3. Move your cursor to the address bar and type about:config

It will look like this.

4. Press Enter.

5. You will get a big warning screen. Ignore the warning and go ahead.

6. Type gtdi in the filter box. This will show you only information about GTDInbox.

Right click on the line that reads extensions.gtdinbox.account_prefs.

A menu will appear.

Choose Reset and click on it. DO NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE!

This will make your browser forget whatever preferences it has been remembering for GTDInbox.

Here’s a picture.

7. Close Firefox.

8. Open Firefox.

9. Reinstall GTDInbox. It may work normally. If not, then you will not have done any harm.

GTDInbox 3.0.11 is now live — please update immediately

January 29th, 2010

We are happy to announce the release of what we hope will be a fairly stable beta of GTDInbox.

Version 3.0.11 should eliminate many of the problems people have been having and may be our last release until Feb 8. Until then, we’re doing a big refactor to improve the foundations for future performance – which is why no new updates for about a week.

GTDInbox Plus Beta users can upgrade through the Plus account management button in their left sidebar.

GTDInbox Free users can upgrade through Mozilla Add-Ons or through GTDInbox.com in the usual way.

Please continue providing us with your error reports, comments and encouragement. If you have problems, please let us know so we can work on them with you! You can post to UserVoice or email us at support at gtdinbox.com or just comment on this blog post.

GTDInbox Plus and GTDInbox Free Updated (3.0.10)

January 28th, 2010

Just a quick note, GTDInbox Plus and GTDInbox Free have been updated to 3.0.10, which I believe (hope!) fix all the current problems with the GTDInbox buttons going missing.

I’ll be on hand tomorrow to deal with any problems that remain. Our new error reporting system (which I’m personally very proud off!) is working wonders for helping us diagnose and fix Gmail breakages a lot faster. I think we can still improve even more, but we’re really getting there.

In the meantime, Free users you can get the latest release from http://www.gtdinbox.com/gettingstarted.htm, and Plus users from your account pages (Installation Instructions to be precise).

PS A big shout out to Michael Bond who’s gone beyond the call of duty to help us get the issues fixed. Thanks Michael!

Imminent release of GTDInbox Plus Beta 3.0.8 followed by update to GTDInbox Free

January 28th, 2010

We will shortly release a new version of GTDInbox Plus Beta, which should restore buttons and other functions for Plus users. We anticipate releasing an update for Free, later tonight or tomorrow morning.

Plus uses, please watch your GTDInbox Plus Beta sidebar. The dedicated update link should appear. Free users, we will post a blog article with a hotlink for you to follow. Again, watch your sidebar for this.

First Batch of GTDInbox Plus Beta Invitations Has Gone Out

January 27th, 2010

We sent email invitations to about 50 previous donors, inviting them to upgrade to GTDInbox Plus Beta. They must have been waiting because they started installing GTDInbox Plus Beta within minutes. We are now contacting them via email so we can make sure their upgrades go as smoothly as possible.

Once we work through any glitches that they encounter, we will send another batch of invitations. If you haven’t already signed up for the upgrade, then follow this link to the GTDInbox Plus Beta Waiting List and sign up, now.

GTDInbox Plus Beta Feature Tour on YouTube

January 26th, 2010

If you’re curious about the new and enhanced features we’ve added in the first release of GTDInbox Plus Beta, take a look at the GTDInbox Plus Beta Release 1 Feature Tour we released on our YouTube account!

The features include:

  • Expanded Archive Button –archive, mark as spam, delete and move to next (or back), plus more, with one click.
  • Reply to Self — add private notes to conversations and send yourself tasks quickly (it’s back and better than before)
  • Send and… button — easily change a conversation’s status (and/or mark it End Of Message) when you send a reply
  • Enhanced magnifying glass for one-click email processing
  • Collapsible labeling box to increase screen space
  • Improved community messaging
  • Enhanced Review Box with enduring popout and popup for faster reviewing
  • Plus account access button
  • Revised Preferences (formerly Options)
  • Semi-automatic error reporting system

Early reports from beta testers tell us they love the features. The enhanced Archive button and the Send and … button in particular speed up email processing and correspondence. The first beta release was unpolished, and we are preparing an update at the moment, but the concepts are sound so it’s just a matter of working out a few minor software glitches.

If you want to sign up for the beta release, here’s a link to the beta release sign-up page.

We also published a video guide to installing GTDInbox Free. If you want to refer a friend and get them started on GTDInbox, then this video can help.

We are planning on a series of  “how to” videos giving more detailed looks at various features, as well as at the overall GTDInbox proactive email workflow. We will announce these in future blog posts.

Enjoy the videos, and let us know what you think. We’re always open to feedback!
